Motorhome Equipment Holders

Bike racks, awning rail hooks, gas bottle straps and cab mounts - the holders that free up space and keep kit where you left it, and what to check before you fit them.

A motorhome has plenty of places to put things and very few that keep them put. A good holder does two jobs: it frees up floor and locker space, and it stops kit moving about while you drive. These are the four worth fitting first.

The four worth fitting first

1. Bike racks

A rear rack keeps bikes out of the garage locker and off the seats. Check the rack's load rating against the bikes you actually carry, and remember that the weight on the back counts towards your payload.

If the bikes hide your rear lights or number plate, fit a lighting board carrying a legal plate.

Browse motorhome bike racks on Amazon and check the load rating on each listing before you buy.

2. Awning rail hooks and holders

Hooks that slide into the awning rail give you somewhere to hang lights, towels and a windbreak without drilling anything. Take them off before you wind the awning back in.

Browse motorhome awning accessories on Amazon and check each hook fits your awning rail before you buy.

3. Gas bottle straps and clamps

A bottle that can move in its locker can strain the regulator and hose. Keep it upright and held with the straps or clamps the locker was built for, and replace a strap once it has stretched or frayed.

Browse motorhome gas bottle straps and clamps on Amazon and check the size range matches your bottles before you buy.

4. Cab mounts and small-item holders

A phone mount, a couple of cup holders and a wall pocket stop the dashboard becoming a shelf. Put the phone mount where it does not block your view of the road or sit in front of an airbag.

Before you buy

  • Know your payload. Every holder, and everything it carries, counts against it. Racks and full lockers use it up faster than people expect.
  • Use the fixings that are already there. Awning rails, locker mounting points and cab trim take a lot of holders without new holes. Check your habitation warranty before you drill into the body.
  • Secure it for driving, not just for parking. Something that sits still on the pitch can still slide on the first roundabout.
